Conduct

The Sicilian Pantry is a working kitchen with various heat sources, possible pots of boiling liquids and many sharp items, it is expected that you give special attention to you surroundings and your proximity to others at all times. Throughout a lesson, full attention should be given to the instructions of the chef/instructor and their assistant/s. Anyone that we consider to be behaving in an unsafe or antisocial manner may be refused admittance or removed from a lesson and blocked from future lessons with no refund given.

Health and Safety

During lessons all participants are required to abide by basic kitchen health and safety rules: Footwear should have closed toes and flat, nonslip soles. Watches, rings and jewellery should not be worn. Long hair should be tied back. Aprons should be well secured and long sleeves rolled up. Clothes and footwear should be clean and participants must wash their hands periodically and when necessary, for example at the start of the lesson, after handling food or after using the bathroom. It is important that all participants stay vigilant and bring to the attention of a member of staff any potential risk that may not have been seen by others.

Advertised Menus

The advertised menus are applicable to the time when they are published and will change according to the seasonal availability of produce. The menus are intended as a guide only and may be subject to change without warning due to for example, weather conditions, availability of produce on any particular day, difficulties with supply chain or at the discretion of the instructor/guide.

Illness or health issues

It is important that you inform us of any illness or health issues before a lesson, in particular anything which may affect physical movement or your ability to carry out any kitchen tasks. Any medicine or aides are the responsibility of the individual.

Special dietary requirements and food allergies

It is important that you inform us of any special dietary requirements, or food allergies when booking a lesson. We are happy to accommodate where possible an individual’s personal food choices or people with food intolerances by making changes to the menu/ingredient list. For people with severe food allergies, due to the nature of the cookery school having many people work in it and shopping from open markets for a wide variety of produce, we can not guarantee that cross contamination of certain food allergens does not occur. If appropriate we are happy to discuss tailoring a lesson/workshop for people with food allergies and/or intolerances.

Children

Children must be accompanied by an adult and it is the accompanying adult’s responsibility to safeguard the child against any possible risk, for example when dealing with knives or hot liquids, due course must also be given that the child’s behaviour does not create a risk to others.

Liability

We do not accept responsibility for the loss or damage of any personal possessions. In the unlikely event that a class must be cancelled, alternative lessons will be offered where appropriate or full refunds for the class will be given, we will not be liable for any indirect costs that the participant may have incurred because of any change.
